TET Athletics Taranaki running ahead
On-going TET assistance is ensuring a wider depth of the community engaged in athletics
Inglewood-based TET Athletics Taranaki continues to pilot new programmes as it endeavours to promote the benefits of a physical fitness to a school children.
Increased participation, skill development, confidence building and inclusivity have all been key outcomes of the last 12 months, CEO Melissa Maw said.
"The first-ever Primary Athletics Championships at TET Stadium Inglewood brought the excitement of sport to life for tamariki across Taranaki. Children not only competed but connected, laughed, and discovered the joy of athletics in a supportive, welcoming environment — many experiencing this for the very first time. These events spark a lifelong love of movement, opening pathways to the Athletics," Maw said.
"Our inclusive programs have nurtured skills, built confidence, and inspired a sense of achievement that extends far beyond the track. Recognizing the need to support neurodiverse tamariki, we delivered an Adaptive Athletics Day. This event celebrated ability, inclusion, and potential — showing that every child can thrive when given the right opportunities."
In addition to specific programmes at the Stadium, Maw and her team have visited a number of Schools in the TET area, where their coaching and encouragement has been well received.
