Principal delighted with new outdoor cover

The covering of an outdoor walkway and deck provides many benefits for Matapu Primary School

Matapu Primary School, on the southern boundary of the Taranaki Electricity Trust, was one of a number of education institutions to receive recent funding from TET. While all schools receive the majority of their funding through the state system, there are still additions that each school always seeks funding assistance from its own community for.

Matapu is no different. And the results can be important, as Principal James Wilson acknowledged.

"Matapu School is always low on space, especially when it comes to covered outdoor areas," Wilson said. "Therefore the substantial grant from TET significantly helped us to add on a covered outdoor area, measuring almost 40 sqm."

Wilson said that covered area has made a big difference to the school. "This project has only recently been completed, but already our students and staff are utilising it for outdoor education activities, break time games (when it's raining), and also as a stage to perform on. On top of this it now provides our junior students with a covered walkway to access a resource room that is used for small group teaching."
